Dechroming by electrolysis

Once in a while, in this boat building adventure we get to do some small mad science experiments. Here we had a couple portholes and a bunch of fittings we wanted to rid of chrome and bring down to clear bronze.
We did so using electrolysis. Electrolysis is basically using electrical current to move electrons from an anode to a cathode through an electrolytic solution (water and salt).
This was really neat…if you are slightly geeky and have the patience to watch the interactions of this passionate couple through a slow pace and light plot movie, I filmed the dechroming of a small deck fitting.
